A Coalition staff favorite, the St. Charles mural is done in full color with black and white image insets. Depicted in color is the lavish Baker Hotel, as it sits along the Fox River. The Arcada Theatre is a black and white inset, along with an early roadside advertisement for the Hotel Baker as another. Three different photos were combined to paint the mural. Another interesting point is, the mural as no painted border, making it very unique with clouds cut out at the top and curved corners at the bottom. Both the hotel and the theater are still operating today. At the ceremony for the mural’s dedication,
the Hotel Baker’s owner arrived with the original bellhop cut out roadside sign.
