The United Sates Army’s first transcontinental trek on the Lincoln Highway was a journey full of challenges. The artist’s compelling image in Crest Hill’s mural vividly conveys the frustration in testing the mobility of military transports. The convoy traveled long distance over several, varying road conditions; with vehicles often getting stuck in the mud, slipping off the road into ditches or some were even blown over cliffs. The mural’s image is from a very striking Lincoln Highway photo of the actual Motor Corps pulling a truck out of the ditch.
